Holon Physics Seminar
Fractal Distribution of Particles in Turbulence
Dr. Itzhak Fouxon, Yonsei University, Seoul
November 30, 2017 | 13:00 | Seminar Room 424/8
Abstract:
In this talk we review progress in the study of fractal distributions of particles transported by turbulence. A typical application is acceleration of rain formation due to fractality of distribution of water droplets transported by turbulence of cloud air.
Quite similar fractality holds in many other cases including patchiness of living phytoplankton cells in the oceans. We will describe the reasons for universal appearance of fractality, introduce fractal dimensions and derive them from statistics of finite-time Lyapunov exponents.
