Between Africa and Holon: Tanzania’s Ambassador visited HIT
A new channel of cooperation opens between the Tanzanian academy and HIT- Holon Institute of Technology
Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania in Israel and Prof. Eduard Yakubov, HIT President
HIT President Prof. Eduard Yakubov presented an overview of the Institute to H.E. Alex Gabriel Kallua, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania, and Ms. Mona Mahecha, Head of the Chancery. He spoke of the 3 central themes which drive HIT- academics, society and industry - and the extensive network of collaborations with approximately 130 academic institutions in approximately 35 countries. This includes 145 undergraduate students from Central Asian countries, student exchange programs, innovation competitions, joint research, and mutual visits, conferences and transcontinental events.
"We focus on training a new generation of experts in all fields," said Prof. Yakubov.
Ambassador Kallua and Ms. Mahecha were impressed by the academic capabilities of HIT and especially by innovative degree programs like Digital Medical Technologies and Instructional Technologies, as well as the Institute's multidisciplinary activities.
"We are very happy to visit you at this prestigious institution. The State of Israel has greatly assisted Tanzania in its technological development over the years. We would be happy to deepen the relationship between the academy in Tanzania and HIT through joint research and student exchange programs," said Ambassador Kallua.
The State of Israel maintains diplomatic relations with Tanzania since 1994. For years, the countries have enjoyed close interactions in trade, industry, agriculture and security. There are several Israeli technology companies such as "Motorola Israel" and "Sargon Networks" which operate in Tanzania today. In 2017, the Tanzanian embassy was opened for the first time in Ramat-Gan.
The visit was organized and conducted by the International Office at HIT headed by Ira Ivshin Guetta.
