HIT helps a youth center in Holon

Shlomi Amir, a B.Sc. alumnus of the School of Computer Science, initiated a donation drive for the "Strudel Center," an at-risk youth center in Holon.

"The Center is a warm place for at-risk youth providing solutions to kids who lack access to technological means like internet, printers, computers, etc. " Shlomi, who returned to the Center about two months ago as an instructor, noticed that it lacked essential updated technological equipment.

Now a software developer in the defense industries, Shlomi approached many hi-tech companies with his request to donate computers, all of which were rejected.  He decided to try his luck at his alma mater, HIT-Holon Institute of Technology, remembering the extensive community services provided by the Institute.  He was warmly welcomed by Gal Steinhart, the Institute's CTO, who facilitated HIT’s donation of seven new computer stations for the Center.

Armed with the new equipment, Shlomi shared his excitement:  "I expect to see an overwhelming response and use of the new high-tech room.  From the initial reaction, we can already see that it is a ‘hit’, and many children spend a lot of time there already," says Shlomi enthusiastically.

 The project allows participating youth to be introduced to a wide range of studies and enjoy leisure activities and games. 

"I believe that this project will make computers and internet access available to these kids all day long, offering them opportunities to learn and develop skills that can positively affect their future," concludes Shlomi.
