Remembering Danielle

HIT's management, lecturers, and friends of the late Danielle Waldman paid tribute to her and her family in a memorial and commemoration event via Zoom.

Danielle Waldman was a brilliant student about to begin her third year of study in the Interior Design department at the Design Faculty at HIT Holon Institute of Technology.

Danielle was murdered together with her partner, Noam Shai, on that Black Saturday of October 7th. Waldman was at the "Nova" music festival in Kibbutz Re’im, from which 300 did not return, some of whom are still in Hamas ISIS terror organization captivity.

The Interior Design department, Dean of the Design Faculty, students, lecturers, and other faculty members held a memorial event for Danielle, together with her friends, parents, sister, and brother.

The participants talked about Danielle, the outstanding student who was always there for her classmates and had dreams and hopes that would no longer come true.

Prof. Eduard Yakubov, President of HIT: "Danielle was not only a member of the Waldman family. She was also a member of the HIT family, A member of HIT's Faculty of Design family, and a member of the Interior Design Department family. A very talented young woman with many plans ahead. An excellent student with many initiatives and a lot of desire to change and improve the world. Our heart is torn, and I want you to know that Danielle will always be with us, and we will find the best way to commemorate her.

Arch. Udi Cramsky, head of the Interior Design department: "Danielle was and will continue to be part of us. We see it as a privilege to remember what she had left behind."

Some of Danielle's work during the two years she studied at the institute was presented during an event. Arch. Matan Gutheit discussed Danielle's fondness for books and art: "She always looked for her way of doing things and never gave up. She seemed to have a deep love for literature, and from there, she drew many elements to her work. She always put all of herself into it and even knew how to help her classmates with their work."

Ms. Tamar Lev-On, a lecturer in the Department of Interior Design and the editor of the faculty's magazine' talked about Danielle as a reporter: "It was always a pleasure to meet her. She was always radiant. I always had a morning conversation with her, which is not characteristic of a student her age," says Lev-On, adding that Danielle was everyone's "communications minister" and was the voice of the students with the lecturers and the institute's management.

Her friends presented a short video from Danielle's footage, after which no eye remained dry. Sapir Cohen, her friend, said: "We always laughed about the fact that she was a 'peace-maker. That's what we called her because she always wanted the best. She was always there to help and support you; Danielle supported you even when you were sure you were not good enough. I believe she's there looking down on us and wouldn't allow us to break up."

Danielle's father, Eyal Waldman, is an entrepreneur and a businessman, founder of the Mellanox company, currently serving as chairman of Waldo Holdings, a private investment company. Waldman said that his last conversation with his daughter was before the event, during which she even told him about her and Noam's desire to get married: "We saw things here today that we didn't always know and knew about Danielle. She was all about her studies and loved it very much. She was always proud of HIT. You said before that this was the first event you are doing, so I hope it will also be the last event," said Eyal Waldman.

Danielle's sister, Sharon Waldman, talked about how she surprised everyone with the decision to study interior design. "We didn't know this side of her, but over time, we saw how talented and good she is at it. I only wanted to text her during our meeting today: see how everyone is talking about you and how good you were."

Over 1,400 civilians and soldiers were murdered and fell during the events of the "Iron Swords" war. About 300 civilians and soldiers are still missing. HIT Holon Institute of Technology sends its condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. It wishes each of the families of the abducted that they will return home soon!
