C2SHIP (Center to Stream Healthcare in Place) & HIT Talk Digital

A distinguished scientific delegation from the C2SHIP were the guests of the Department of Digital Medical Technologies. The visit included an extensive review of the activities of the, and also a site visit of the MADE Lab, a multidisciplinary R&D facility combining design, bioengineering and the LIVING LAB - an open research laboratory focusing on homecare solutions for the elderly – the only one of its kind in Israel.

Dr. Hadas Lewy, Head of Digital Medical Ventures at the Institute, gave the guests a detailed overview of the Department's curriculum and its overarching goal: to bridge the knowledge gaps that exist between doctors and technologists by training our graduates to "speak" both languages - technological and bio- medical – so that they will be able to integrate into the MedTech industry as medical information analysts or apply for a 4 year medical degree.

Several of the successful digital medicine projects were presented. Examples included solutions for seamless nursing shift transitions in order to address information overload, collaboration with Ichilov Medical Center in geriatric rehabilitation projects, cooperation with colleagues from the Rabin Medical Center to provide solutions for patients suffering from dysphagia and Parkinson’s disease.

The C2SHIP is an association of universities, industry and healthcare organizations which aim to promote technological development and implement healthcare innovations in the USA.

The delegation was headed by by Prof. Janet M. Roveda, a world-renowned expert in electrical computer and biomedical engineering from the University of Arizona.

It also included six additional experts from various fields of research and development in digital medicine, including Prof. Shu-Fen Wung from the University of Arizona, Prof. Chiara Draio from Caltech, Prof. Marjorie Skubic from the University of Missouri, Prof. David Armstrong from the University of Southern California, Daniel Rechlin, Robert and Andrew Schatz and Mr. Zvi Herman the Coordinator of the visit on behalf of the Israel Export Institute.

The Department of Digital Medical Technologies at HIT was founded by Dr. Refael Barkan, VP for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Internationalization, and has recently completed its first 3-year degree cycle.
