Prestigious award to Prof. Reshef Tenne, Chairman of HIT’s Supreme Appointments Committee

Prof. Reshef Tenne, Academic Council member and Chair of Faculty Appointments Committee at HIT, receives prestigious award

Prof. Reshef Tenne, distinguished member of HIT’s Academic Council and Chairman of the Institute’s highest Faculty Appointment Committee, plays a significant role in helping HIT chart a rigorous academic path in terms of professional, technological and scientific advancement.

Prof. Tenne’s highly cited scientific work at the Weizmann Institute was recognized recently at the spring meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS), where he received the prestigious ACS Award in Material Chemistry. Prof. Tenne is a Prof (Emeritus) at the Weizmann Institute of Science, and a world leader and innovator in nanomaterials research. The conference is one of the most important in the world and attracts about ten thousand participants yearly.

The Award is presented annually for an outstanding contribution in materials chemistry, with special emphasis on research of actual or potential technological importance.

Among the judges' considerations for the Award was Prof. Tenne’s groundbreaking discoveries in the field of inorganic fullerene-like nanoparticles and inorganic nanotubes.

Prof. Tenne delivered the keynote address at a special symposium held in his honor, with the participation of distinguished leaders in the field.

He is one of the pioneers in research in inorganic chemistry with an illustrious career that spans over 30 years. Prof. Tenne is also the recipient of other prestigious prizes, including the Rothschild Prize and the AMT Prize for Art, Science and Culture.

Prof. Reshef Tenne has been a major force at HIT behind the Council for Higher Education’s decision to allow the Institute to independently grant Associate Professorships in 5 disciplines.
