Jerusalem Prize for Academia Awarded to Prof. Eduard Yakubov
Professor Eduard Yakubov, President of HIT - Holon Institute of Technology, was awarded the 2025 Jerusalem Prize by the Minister of Education Mr. Yoav Kisch, at the 22nd Jerusalem Conference of the B'Sheva Group, held on February 24, 2025.
The Jerusalem Prize is an annual honor recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to Israeli society. Professor Yakubov received the award for his unwavering dedication to advancing higher education, fostering technological innovation, and promoting collaboration between academia and industry.
"The committee is proud to award you the Jerusalem Prize for your outstanding leadership of the Technological Institute with excellence, determination, and dedication. Your work in opening new, forward-thinking programs and managing critical projects has greatly contributed to the development of Israel and the world. Your contributions to science, engineering, and design in Israel are invaluable, and your efforts in supporting reserve duty personnel and students in need have earned the admiration and gratitude of the people of Israel."
Under Professor Yakubov's leadership, HIT has become a leading institution in engineering, technology, design, and the emerging field of medical technologies. His emphasis on applied research and collaboration with industry ensures that graduates are well-integrated into both Israeli and global markets. Professor Yakubov is also committed to increasing diversity within academia and providing equal opportunities for every student to succeed.
"We need a new generation of researchers, developers, and innovation leaders to drive Israel's future. This is the vision we pursue at the Institute," said Professor Yakubov upon receiving the prize.
Born and raised in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Professor Yakubov immigrated to Israel driven by his Zionist values and love for the State of Israel. Throughout his distinguished academic career, he has been on a mission to advance science and technology in Israel while fostering meaningful connections between academia, industry, and society for the benefit of students and graduates.
During the conference, HIT CEO Shmuel Goldberg participated in a "one-on-one" interview with B'Sheva newspaper reporter Dvir Amar, where he highlighted the Institute's recent developments and activities. Goldberg also discussed the Institute's extensive efforts following the October 7 events to support students, particularly those serving in security forces. HIT opened the academic year in three phases to accommodate reserve soldiers, providing personalized academic plans, academic accommodations, and psychological support to ensure that no student was left behind during this challenging period.
The Jerusalem Prize represents a significant recognition of Prof. Yakubov's decades of academic leadership and his commitment to shaping the next generation of engineers, researchers, and designers. His contributions to making knowledge and innovation accessible to a broad and diverse audience and his leadership of HIT have resulted in remarkable achievements.
