Holon’s Outstanding Students

Scholarships awarded to 5 outstanding HIT students by the Israel Rotary Club Foundation in cooperation with the Holon Municipality

The conference hall at HIT-Holon Institute of Technology was buzzing with excitement on Sunday evening, when the Rotary Club Foundation, in cooperation with HIT and the Municipality of Holon, held its annual scholarship awards ceremony on campus. Over NIS100,000 was awarded to 22 Holon students to assist them in their further studies. 

The scholarships are awarded to disadvantaged students and helps them finance their degree studies.

When the traditional Rotary bell rang - the ceremony began!

"We are proud to be part of this awards ceremony and are happy for the longstanding cooperation with our partners in the Holon Municipality and the Rotary Foundation. You are the students - our future generation - and your success is our success," said HIT President Prof. Eduard Yakubov.

"I am proud to continue the great tradition of the Rotary Foundation's scholarships. This is an important and valuable ongoing initiative," said Moti Sasson, Mayor of Holon.

Five of the students were from HIT - Adi Goldman, Linoi Tehrani, Mani Ben Atar, Shiran Ganbangi and Dorin Zakaria -were among the scholarship recipients. The students stay in touch with their sponsors over their course of study, and three of them have been chosen for the third year in a row.

"We deeply appreciate the support of the Rotary Foundation, and do not take it lightly. You deserve this well-deserved recognition. And to you the students, I hope to see you complete your degree successfully, advance in the job market and in the future, be in a position to pass it forward to students at the beginning of their journey" said Mr. Shmuel Goldberg, HIT’s CEO.

"The Rotary Club are partners in this journey for years and support the academy in general and HIT in particular. This voluntary enterprise is an example and model of their ability to contribute to the community in diverse ways and through various activities," said Dr. Limor Sahar Inbar, Dean of Students, whose office oversees the scholarship programs at HIT. The Dean’s Office promotes close relationships between donors and students, who for their part contribute back to the community during volunteer hours outside of school hours."

Rotary Israel is part of the Rotary World Organization. The organization is defined as an "apolitical organization of professional businessmen, activists and social entrepreneurs working in the community" in areas such as environment, society, community, education and more. Among the dozens of projects that the Club takes part in all over the country are student scholarships for academic excellence or financial need.

"It is very exciting to know that it is personal. That there is an individual who is committed to helping us finish our studies. Besides the financial aid, a personal relationship with the donor is created, often including assistance in helping their students find a job after finishing their degrees " says Adi Godelman, a third-year student in the Department of Visual Communication at the HIT Faculty of Design. Adi's personal donor is Itzik Dor, who works in textiles. "I believe in her and her ability. She will achieve greatness", says Dor, and adds that he has been donating to the fund for many years and for him, this is a sacred mission.

The international organization of Rotary has a membership of 1.4 million businessmen, professionals, entrepreneurs and social activists working in their communities and around the world. In Israel, Rotary has been operating since 1929 when the Cairo Club founded the Jerusalem Club and later expanded to the entire country. There are about 43,000 clubs around the world, and in Israel, some 66 clubs and 1450 members.
