"Activating the power of science" was the central theme of the World Science Forum (WSF) which had convened earlier this month in Budapest, Hungary, led by the president of the national academy of sciences..
Prof. Eduard Yakubov , president of HIT has attended this forum which gathers every two years since 1999. This year, about 700 scientists, public and social figures form 90 countries took part in the forum, among them two Nobel prize winners , presidents of the national academies of science, heads of academic institutions and leading industries, politicians and heads of international funds.
Among other topics, the participants discussed the relationships between the higher education systems, the industry and science in the modern era 2015-2030; the impact of science development on the decision making process in politics; the common future; climate changes; expansion of international cooperation in science for the advancement of society and the world at large; balanced investments in science, and more.

The major sponsors of the forum are UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and the ISCU (International Council for Science) .
Among many others, Prof. Yakubov had met with Prof. Hiroshi Amano, a Japanese scientist and inventor, who specializes in the field of semi-conductors. Prof. Amano was awarded the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing blue light-emitting diodes (LED).
The president had also met with princess Sumaya from Jordan, the second daughter of Prince El Hassan, who is a lawyer, active in advancing the fields of science and education, research and innovation toward sustainable development. The princess had invited the president to take part in the next World Science Forum f meeting which will be held in 2017 in Jordan.
