A tribute exhibition at HIT to the late designer Ami Drach

One of the most exciting exhibitions ever presented at the "Virtina" gallery in HIT this year is "Connector- A tribute to Ami Drach". The exhibitions is a tribute the the industrial designer Ami Drach who had passed away, before his time,  in 2012. It consists of more than 70 works made by Israeli designers who made personal contributions to Drach for the 4th anniversary of his death.

 

The participants deal with Drach's memory through adopting various approaches which were used by him: medical design, experimental design and more, alongside personal tributes made by others.

Ami Drach was born in Haifa, served in the Israeli Navy, studied industrial design at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and was the head of the industrial Design department there between 2004-2008.

 

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Prof. Eduard Yakubov , President of HIT , said that it is an emotional event and we're remembering one of the great artists and designers of Israel.  This great exhibition is also a way of  showing the  students how far they can get with their achievements.

 

Prof. Dana Arieli, Dean of the faculty of Design and co-curator of the exhibition, said that until today there wasn't a tribute exhibition like this one  and that it is sad that it takes place under these tragic circumstances. "Ami left way before his time and yet there is joy, happiness and colorfulness in all of these objects that were made in his memory".

Prof. Ezri Tarazi, co-curtaor, said that he is thankful to the Faculty of Design at HIT for hosting the exhibition and for being the major supporters of it. The exhibition reflects a typical combination that characterized Ami- didactiveness and aesthetic poetics. It is not a mere cultural event but rather a deep appreciation and great love to Ami".
