Say "Street"

An international photography exhibition is on display at HIT's library – Say "Street" documents street art from all over the world.
This is a unique collaboration between the library and "GuruShots" an Israeli innovative startup company, which conducts open professional and amateur photography competitions worldwide. This collaboration was initiated by Michal Chill, the library's manager which resulted in a special photography competition where photographers from all over the world were asked to upload their street-art photos. 10'000 photos were submitted and 4/6 million viewers had voted. 45 photographs from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, China, Spain and more were chosen, printed and are now displayed at the exhibition.
It is amazing to see how much talent and creativity are invested by the artists in the street art scene. In the past, graffiti painting was considered an act of vandalism and was used to express political, social and personal view points. Today Graffiti is still used as means of personal expression, but slowly is being recognized by the establishment as legitimate artwork which decorates the city and beautifies it, thus many street artists are being invited by the municipalities to use public spaces and walls as their canvas.
