Prof. Ronni Gamzu

In recognition of his manifold activities and achievements in medicine and public health in Israel, of his leadership skills in effectively managing these systems, especially during Israel’s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, and his myriad accomplishments in modernizing the field of medicine in general and digital medicine in particular.

Prof. Ronni Gamzu first encountered the medical field whilst serving in the IDF as a medic. From that point on, he dedicated himself to saving lives, a journey which has brought him from Ben Gurion University where he qualified in obstetrics and gynecology; and Tel Aviv University where he earned a PhD in medical sciences and two Master’s degrees in Business and Law.

Prof. Gamzu specialized in Gynecology at the Lis Maternity and Women’s Hospital – Ichilov. There, he advanced to the position of Deputy-Director, and shortly after stepping into this position, he was tapped to serve as the CEO of the Ministry of Health. Subsequent appointments to the Health Division of the OECD and directorship of the National Digital Health Authority soon followed. From 2015, he served as the CEO of the Tel Aviv-Sourasky Medical Center – Ichilov Hospital (TASMC).

With the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, Prof. Gamzu was appointed as Israel’s first COVID chief. In this capacity, Gamzu advised the Ministry of Health on the best and most effective ways to deal with the Covid-19 outbreak. As the ‘face’ of COVID prevention, his relentless battle to help the country fearlessly cope with the pandemic is etched into the psyche of Israel’s citizenry.

This past November, Prof. Gamzu made the decision to shift his role from CEO of the hospital to Chairman, which allows him to direct more of his time, energy and talent to advancing medical innovation and technology and further developing the hospital. It is in this area of medical technology where Prof. Gamzu and HIT share a deep-seated belief in the future of medicine in Israel and the world.

The field of digital medical technologies draws from a multitude of disciplines from the worlds of technology and medicine. It is this fresh new innovative spirit brought by HIT to the world of medicine which serves as the common denominator between HIT and Prof. Gamzu. Together, they work diligently to herald an era of new medical technologies which meet the needs of the 21st century while transforming the role doctors play in the context of this new digital reality.
