Professor Bar-Lev received his B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his M.Sc. and D.Sc. from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management.
Upon his completing his doctoral studies in 1981 he joined the Department of Statistics at the University of Haifa.
In 1991 he was promoted to the rank of Full Professor.
Before joining HIT, he was the former president of the Israel Statistical Association and Dean of Research of the University of Haifa.
Professor Bar-Lev was awarded the honorary rank of Fellow of the American Statistical Association “for outstanding contributions to the statistical profession, for his contributions to statistical theory—especially on exponential families of distributions - and for work in effectively establishing statistical support and consulting activities”.
During the period 2004 -2013, Professor Bar-Lev has been an Extramural Fellow of the CentER - Center for Economic Research - at the University of Tilburg, the Netherlands (the CentER “is a world-class research institute that draws on the academic expertise of some of the most outstanding minds in the field of economics and business”- See Link.
He has been invited to serve as a long-term Visiting Professor at several universities around the world, including universities in the United States, China (NYU Shanghai), Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Greece.
