The Fourth Front: What do visual communication designers do during combat?

The Department of Visual Communication in the Faculty of Design at HIT is engaged in the fighting efforts in designing, planning, and creating various graphic projects.
 

 
"After the Black Sabbath, when it all started, we realized that everything would change. Every lecturer who realized that his studio would probably not work in the coming weeks, along with our students eager to assist, established the "Operations Room" of visual communication.

It's a headquarters whose goal is to help anyone in need," says Erez Bachar, a senior lecturer in the Department of Visual Communication in the Faculty of Design at HIT Holon Institute of Technology.
 
Within a few days, in the WhatsApp group that was created for that purpose, over 50 students signed up. Current and former department lecturers decided to hire and manage the student teams, along with alumni who came for "reserve" duty.

 
"It was clear to me that this had to be done. I graduated from HIT, and today I run a studio with my wife, but as soon as I saw the request from the Head of the Department, I knew that I should be there." says Amit Zakha who, graduated with honors from the Department of Visual Communication at the Faculty of Design.

Amit Zakhai, along with the student Ortal Minyovov, created a video summarizing the activities of the civilian "Operations Room" for the families of the hostages.

The students May Peleg and May Gross, together with the lecturer Prof. Oded Ezer, helped design stickers and to assist help factory which employs people with special needs to continue working.
 

Lecturers Ilon Adri and Eitan Bartal, with the students Yuval Katan, Ashad Shaliu and, Adi Goldman created, produced, and edited several videos with the participation of celebrities and youth idols such as Tal Moseri, Emma Alfie, Mergui, and others.

The project is a collaboration between the Department of Visual Communication and the Enosh Association, which specializes in promoting mental health among teenagers and young adults. Together with the therapists of the association, our experts created videos with practical, adapted content for children and teenagers, especially suitable to this period.

Using filmed materials from the are of the Nachal Oz Kibbutz, where close to a quarter of its members were kidnapped or murdered, the lecturer Bob Orel, together with the students May Davidi, Amit Hobash, and Gaya Paz created and edited a video designed to tell the story of the place before and after the Black Sabbath of 10/7. Among other things, the video will assist in raising donations for the reconstruction of the kibbutz .

"In the last few weeks, the wonderful faculty members and students of the department have joined our team with a desire to assist anyone who needs creative support in film production, promotion on the networks, documentation, and information wherever possible. I'm very proud of this department, of everyone who donated their time and mobilized with all their heart. This is Visual Communication in the full sense of the word," said Tzachi Diner, Head of the Visual Communication Department at HIT.
 
In addition, the students and lecturers, members of the Visual Communication's "Operations Room", created and worked on several other projects in Israel and abroad. We will update here about new and important project.
