For the past eight years HIT has founded a unique impressive Digital Health ecosystem, establishing close R&D partnerships with all major medical centers and HMOs in Israel.
Thus, much of the new academic program’s curriculum was developed with guidance from the medical and health service community in order to ensure that it is based on the real needs of the industry and people which it will be serving. Project-based learning and multi-disciplinary experiences in clinical environments are cornerstones of the program, ensuring that students will gain hands-on knowledge and applied research skills.
This represents the core values of the Digital Medical Technologies degree: strong academic foundations in technological knowledge and biomedicine and advanced data-driven knowhow in research methods and medical care.
The program’s curriculum consists of three layers:
- Basic Sciences: chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, probability, statistics and computer programming
- Medical Sciences: biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, psychology and anthropology (adapted for the 21st century medicine)
- Information Technologies: basic and advanced courses in the fields of computer science and data science adapted to the world of digital medicine and its needs; Advanced courses in information and knowledge management, AI (machine learning and deep learning), data communication and information security
- Electives: broad spectrum of subjects, ranging from entrepreneurship, social robots, IoMT, wearable computing and biomimicry to medical imaging, toxicology, cloud computing in biomedical environment and modern patterns of patient-physician communication in the 21st century
Graduates will be able to integrate into the bio-med and info-med industries (hospitals, HMOs, insurance companies, pharma, Hi-Tech, Digital Health startups and more). They will be able to work as medical information analysts and ‘applied technology mediators’ between the worlds of biomedicine and technologies. They will also be able to pursue advanced degrees in data science and bio-informatics.
Last but not least, graduates will also be able to compete for admission to a 4-year M.D. program equipped with advanced digital skillsets alongside their clinical training. Each graduating class of the Digital Medical Technologies Department will be creating a brave new world in healthcare.
